Volunteer at First Light Con

Volunteers are the heart of First Light Con. They help create a smooth, welcoming, and memorable experience for attendees, guests, and vendors throughout the weekend. Whether you’re assisting with registration, supporting panels, managing lines, or helping behind the scenes, you’ll play an essential role in bringing the convention to life.

We welcome volunteers with all levels of experience — from seasoned con staffers to first‑timers who simply want to help out and be part of the community. Go to Volunteer Application Form.

 

Volunteer Requirements

To ensure a safe and successful event, volunteers must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Commit to at least one full shift (typically 3–5 hours)
  • Follow all First Light Con Policies and the Code of Conduct
  • Attend a brief virtual orientation before the event
  • Be able to stand or walk for portions of the shift (depending on assignment)
  • Be comfortable interacting with attendees for public‑facing roles

Volunteer Roles

We offer a variety of roles to match different interests and comfort levels. You may select your preferences on the form.

Registration & Check‑In

Help attendees check in, distribute badges, and keep lines moving smoothly.

Panel & Programming Support

Monitor rooms, assist panelists, manage seating, and help keep sessions on schedule.

Guest & Talent Support

Assist special guests with movement between areas, panel preparation, and general needs.
(Assigned to trusted volunteers with prior experience.)

Vendor & Exhibitor Support

Support vendors during load‑in/load‑out, check on needs throughout the day, and help maintain a smooth show floor.

Crowd & Line Management

Direct attendees, manage queues, and help maintain safe, clear pathways.

Operations / General Support

Assist staff with logistics, run supplies, and fill in where needed.

Social Media / Content Support

Capture approved photos or short videos, assist with social updates, and help document the event.

Accessibility Support

Help attendees with mobility or seating needs and ensure accessible pathways remain clear.

Kids & Family Programming

Assist with supervised activities and help families navigate programming.
